The short trek follows one of the many pre-Inca trails that still exist in the valleys of the Cordillera Blanca and ends at the ancient ruins of the Chavin Culture, which is one of the oldest civilizations in the Americas. Along the way, you will pass through beautiful countryside with spectacular views of many of the Cordillera Blanca’s ice-capped summits including Rurec (5700m), Cashan (5868m), Huantsan (6395m) and Shacsha (5703m). On arriving in Chavin, a typical Andean village, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage archeological site of Chavin de Huantar.
The trek takes 3 days and is moderately easy. It is suitable for novice hikers, but it is important to be well acclimatized because it does include on high mountain pass.
